Phishing for Info - Don't Become a Victim

The Internal Revenue Service has issued another advisory regarding phishing emails.  The most recent phishing relates to the use of the Electronic Funds Transfer Payment System (EFTPS) that most companies, some foundations, and other entities are required to use to make tax payments.     The Treasury Department will eliminate paper coupon filing in January 2011 so many people are now preparing or beginning to use EFTPS for the first time.

The Internal Revenue Service reminds us that they (the IRS, EFTPS, or the Financial Management Service) will never communicate with anyone by way of email.    Emails saying that your EFTPS payment was rejected are bogus.  The IRS issues an immediate acknowledgment of all payments at the time of the transaction.  Do not respond to any emails purportedly from the IRS or EFTPS.  Do not open attachments from them, click on any links, or reply to the sender.  Delete them without opening them.
